Here are a few of my favorite games for the workshop on Thursday, August 13th. Feel free to check them out. I've attached a word doc with a bunch of business related games. My favorites are Diner Dash and Buget Hero.
There are also MMORPGs that offer a variety of opportunities for studying or applying course concepts in the quest driven worlds of World of Warcraft and Runescape.
If you are coming to the COLTT 2009 presentation, then rest assured we will have many more games for you to play/ choose/ evaluate. :-) We will be using a BlackBoard shell that you will all be enrolled in. However, for those of you who can't attend, we will be moving our lists of games to a new VW. By September 1st, we plan on having a world dedicated to Serious Games in Metaplace. We will have more details and Metaplace insights coming soon as we commence building the world and really get our hands dirty create a new space. :-)
To help you start evaluating these games, I've included the attached rubrics. The Instructor's Review is to help you evaluate it from the instructor's perspective and determine which course concepts are the best fit for each serious game.
The Student Review sheet is for your students, children or someone who can pretend to be a student :-) to use and evaluate the game from the learner's perspective. After all, it does very little good to have a game that is really good at teaching a topic, but no student wants to play. :-)

Hello Erica,
We are still constructing the MetaPlace world. It's taking a bit longer than anticipated. It is more a "designing the space thing" than any issues with building in Metaplace. :0) We will have it up soon.
If you are already in MetaPlace, here are a few college worlds that you can look at while you wait. :-)
Front Range Central
Mali Community College
University of the West of Scotland
University of Ulster Coleraine
These will give you a sense of how colleges and universities are now using Metaplace.
