Kae 7335 tweets on #Educause09

On Tuesday night I attended at Preceptis event at the Samba Club. Twitter at the conference was a topic of discussion among the vendors ....and it was met with skepticism. For the vendors ( people trying to sell to higher education) an opinion was expressed that they never had read anything meaningful on twitter. Well, there were 7335 meaningless tweets about and around this conference. As someone who teaches marketing I somehow believe that a business looking to find trends, satisfy their custo… Continue

Beth Davies-Stofka Dragons Vs. Robots

Here comes Dragons Vs. Robots! This is an RPG with transmedia ambitions. It is definitely not EduPunx, in that the plan here is clearly to target the tween market with a ton of different strategies designed to separate them from their money. However, if it takes off, we'll figure out ways to piggy back on their involvement, and discover "teachable moments." LOL! I promise never… Continue

Beth Davies-Stofka LA Times Covers BlizzCon

The article chose to focus on the Dread Pirates, who have formed real bonds of friendship through playing WoW together. They meet IRL life at BlizzCon, but in-game three or four nights a week. These guys are each other's "peeps" or "posse": when they need someone to talk to, hang with, or heal with, they turn to their fellow pirates. Is there something wrong with this? I don't think so. But I know there's still a lot of opposition to the very thought that deep and lasting friendships -- the kin… Continue

Beth Davies-Stofka NeoSteam

NeoSteam, a free MMORPG, just became available in England. The press release makes me think the game isn't available in the US, but I still need to verify that. If you visit the website, there's a video preview. I don't know how to distinguish this from WoW or Runescape! Anyone? Continue

Beth Davies-Stofka Botgirl Questi Outs Herself

Here is a fascinating spin on immersion from one of the Center's favorite friends, Botgirl Questi. I think the really interesting aspect of this story is her take on immersion. But on a side note: Her confession is creating some anxiety in the blogosphere, and the funny thing is, we don't really know that much more about her! It really shows how significant gender and… Continue

Billy Cain Introducing myself - I hope to contribute to the group here!

Hello! My name is Billy Cain. I met Beth at the Game Education Summit this week. There was a link on her bio to this group (the link has an issue that I've already reported) and I thought I'd get here and tell you what I'm doing. I have been making games and helping with gaming education since '92. I love games! I've been a mercenary, essentially, for the last 7 years, solving other people's problems, improving their games, and you name it. Recently I was approached by a group to help build th… Continue

Kae Twitter Manifesto 4 Conferences

I was involved in a discussion about twitter practices by conference sponsors and I kind of came up with these possible strategies. Different Tweet Strategies 1) Web 1.0 a. The organization keeps the communication one way. The organization puts out information, updates, public relations and they never follow anyone. It works. It’s another form of communication but it is only 1 way. Has a bit of old media feel – no feedback mechanism in place. 2) WEB 2.0 conference strategy a. The twitter… Continue

Beth Davies-Stofka How to have fun in the classroom

From London's Independent. I thought this part was key: What is important, says Black, is that a creative teacher uses the right tool for the job. Does the CYTIE Rubric measure that? I don't think so, and frankly, I don't think it should (since matching the tool to the job is a different exercise than measuring CYTIE). However, this does indicate the need for another rubric.
