Religion in Virtual Worlds Meeting Tomorrow

Hello Everyone,

We presented the game yesterday at the Games Education Summit and here's the write-up http://www.patheos.com/Explore/Additional-Resources/Bardo-the-Game-... It will be part of the discussion tomorrow at the meeting.

Religion in Virtual Worlds Study Group

The Religion in Virtual Worlds Study Group meets on the 3rd Friday of the month at 8:00 AM Second Life time. (For our members in Hawaii , we will discuss moving the time.)

The June meeting will take place on June 19th. The agenda is as follows:

Buddhist Death in Second Life

Dr. Beth Davies-Stofka describes the progress made on the Second Life Bardo Game. It's ready for student testing, and we'll demo the game for the group.

Designed by members of the Center for EduPunx, the Second Life Bardo Game creates the "in between" state of the dead person as described in the Tibetan Book of the Dead, challenging the player to find her way to enlightenment.

Discussion: does it work? What did you learn?

Business Meeting

Set the agenda for the July meeting. Set a time.

We have some tentative ideas for our July meeting, and are looking forward to hearing about how group members are using Second Life for teaching and/or research. We'd also like to discuss how we might tie our work into the work of the Virtual Worlds Assessment Group, which is creating strategies for assessing the pedagogical value of Second Life and other Virtual Worlds.

Religion in Virtual Worlds Study Group meetings normally last an hour and a half, but feel free to come late and leave early!

All are welcome. All meetings are held on the Front Range Island . Front Range Island is private, so please RSVP in advance with your avatar name to beth.davies@frontrange.edu.

If you have sent in an RSVP before, or have attended a meeting already, you shouldn't need to RSVP. The meeting will be held outside Lord Yama's cavern. ;)

Please verify in advance that you can teleport to the meeting location.

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you on June 19th!

Beth Davies-Stofka, Ph.D.

SL: Michigan Paule

Next meeting: July 17. Agenda will be set at the June meeting.
